Device Modernization For Flexibility and Adaptability

Barcoding, Inc. President, Shane Snyder, was recently featured in Inbound Logistics, sharing information about device modernization and how upgrading to Android devices can create adaptability in the supply chain.

Supply Chain Recovery
The COVID-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on areas that need improvement in our supply chains and operations worldwide. Updates to outdated systems are even more essential than before, as we rebuild and continue to strengthen the supply chain for the future. Device modernization is a key component of supply chain recovery strategies.

“This is the time to trade up to Android. While it seems a bit counterintuitive, moving to new hardware will lower the total cost of ownership and create more flexibility as the supply chain continues to change at a rapid pace,” says Snyder.

The Benefits of Modernization
Mobile technology is the cornerstone of many operations, and yet many still run on legacy Windows mobile-based hardware. Running outdated operating systems prevent companies from maximizing the potential of their mobile devices and potentially miss out on opportunities to be more efficient, accurate, and connected. Though there is an initial investment upfront to purchase new devices, the many benefits of Android make it a viable and worthwhile option that will future-proof operations for the long haul and allow companies to be prepared for the next emergency situation.

“Companies need a way to effectively—and remotely—troubleshoot mobile device issues for their teams at the warehouse or in the field. New devices give more flexibility and allow for video learning and remote access,” says Snyder. “Companies can also outsource the management function of mobile devices to a supply chain partner, which frees up internal IT to focus on top-priority projects.”

If mobile devices are up-to-date, companies can instead focus on continuous improvement and making the most out of the opportunities afforded by Android.
