Casino Security Gets a Boost from Barcoding Inc.’s Active Asset Tracker

At Mount Airy Casino Resort, stringent regulations are in place and big fines are imposed when keys happen to leave a facility for any reason. In the spirit of creating accountability and discouraging duplication and theft, the casino enlisted the help of supply chain efficiency leader Barcoding Inc.

Barcoding Inc.’s Active Asset Tracker uses the Internet of Things and Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE) beacons to help the casino track information about assets, including their location, temperature and movement. BLE beacons were attached to the key rings in question at Mount Airy, and a CloudNode and stack light were installed by the exit of the facility. When tagged key rings make their way to this area, the stack light is illuminated and an email alert is sent out to security authorities apprising them of the situation.

Mount Airy Casino Resort’s security director, Lianne Asbury, praised the system for its ease of implementation and cost-effectiveness. She said the casino believes it will help them avoid regulatory fines by preventing people from leaving with keys, even if it is unintentional. She expects the casino to eventually use the solution to create reports for analysis and auditing.

Easier and Cheaper Than RFID

While Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has been getting a lot of attention lately, Active Asset Tracker proved to be a faster, easier and more affordable solution in the case of Mount Airy Casino Resort. In addition, there is no need for management to try to get employees to follow complicated systems for checking in and checking out.

The success at Mount Airy highlighted the promise offered by this solution for the casino industry’s unique needs. His firm was looking forward to seeing the casino’s investment pay off in terms of more connected, accurate and efficient staff and fewer regulatory fines.
