Top Features

– Enterprise-class functionality on Android operating system
– Pocket-sized, lightweight form factor
– Integrated 1D/2D scanner for data capture
– A variety of productivity tools included
– Excellent image and audio quality

Our Take

The TC55 Touch computer from Zebra Technologies was brought to market in February of 2014 as the company’s first Android-based operating system for true enterprise class data capture and performance. It boasts a 1.5 GHz dual core processor with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of Flash memory, plus an ultra-bright 4.3 inch LCD display protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 2.

In fact, the entire TC55 has been “reinforced” both inside and out. Its outer shell features class-leading protection from drops, shock and occasional water contact. Zebra’s Mobility Extensions (Mx) also transforms the Android operating system into a powerful enterprise-class solution with enhanced security and device management. All at a very attractive price point.

Our take on the TC55 Touch Computer is that it’s an excellent size-optimized and feature packed, entry level mobile computer that clearly outshines the competition. With best in class battery life, durability, audio and data capture, it is hard to make a case against the TC55.

The Good

The TC55 mobile computer is small and lightweight yet tough and versatile, packed with enough functionality to get the job done. Zebra’s Mobility DNA also makes it easy to customize with a large set of applications and developer utilities right out of the box, which gets your customers up and running faster. With an excellent life expectancy, this is simply a solid choice for a number of industries.

The Not So Great

While the Zebra TC55 is easily one of the most powerful, rugged touch computers within the entry-level class, the faster, larger TC75 (also by Zebra Technologies) has become the industry standard for mobile productivity. For that reason alone, the TC55 is often overlooked as a viable option.

The Bottom Line

Of all the entry-level enterprise touch computers we’ve tested, the TC55 by Zebra is clearly at the head of its class. Dollar for dollar, there is not a more complete solution on the market today.

What’s New?

– Android 4.4.3 (KitKat) Operating System
– Mobility DNA Solutions for fast deployment
– Integrated 1D/2D scan engine
– Simulscan for fast data capture and sharing
– PowerPrecision for best-in-class battery life

Ease of Use

One of the greatest features of the Zebra TC55 is its fast deployment time right out of the box. This makes it not only easy to utilize as the end-user, but also simplifies administrative tasks over the life of the device. Since it’s built on the Android operating system and fortified with Zebra’s Mobility DNA solutions, the TC55 will feel familiar to Android users with the ability to customize to your heart’s content.

Best Environments and/or Applications

The TC55 is an excellent choice for field workers who require a mobile enterprise solution that’s built to stand up to daily usage. From transportation and logistics to field service and delivery or public safety, its rugged construction, solid connectivity and ease of use make it a solid choice.
