Barcoding’s 2023 research survey results reveal critical trends and challenges and offer actionable insights to guide industry leaders through an evolving business landscape.

More than half (55%) of North American supply chain professionals surveyed remain braced for the next major supply chain disruption. That’s according to a late 2023 survey conducted by Barcoding, Inc., the leader in supply chain efficiency, accuracy, and connectivity.

The report, titled Perception Versus Reality: Data Capture & Supply Chain Industry Trends, also identifies the following as top challenges faced by supply chain professionals right now:

  • Regulatory changes (48%)
  • Competitive pressure (42%)
  • Talent retention (37%)

In the fall of 2023, Barcoding reached out to business professionals in numerous roles across a diverse range of industries to uncover their most pressing challenges and urgent needs for modernization amid a rapidly changing supply chain. The survey invited leaders to share the impacts of major industry shifts and the strategic decisions they’re making to transform challenges into growth opportunities.

Barcoding’s experts are on the front lines with customers, and we’re always keeping a pulse on the forces that impact their employees’ ability to deliver great service that supports their industry leadership. Future-proofing is a major focus, and limited resources mean leaders need to find ways to maximize the return on their technology investments. Our 2023 research report provides data and insights to help inform those decisions.”
—Jody Costa, VP of Marketing & Strategic Partnerships

Directed primarily at supply chain leaders in IT and operations, the survey explored operational hurdles including inventory management, enterprise data visibility, managing mobility at scale, and the barriers to growth companies can face if modernization efforts fall behind. The report sheds light on assumptions leaders make about their industry peers by reporting on beliefs about competitors and respondents’ on-the-ground realities.
