This is the 9th installment in our series commemorating the Barcoding, Inc. 8th Annual Executive Forum, held in October of last year. We are bringing you a new #TBT Video of the Week each week, showcasing a new session from EF8 every time. If you haven’t seen last week’s video, where Stan Marshall of Georgia Pacific discusses MRO efficiency, you can find it here.

This Week’s Video
Drew Ehlers of Zebra Technologies addresses the latest and greatest in this week’s video, “Track I: The Supply Chain of the Future: Using Digital Technologies to Create an Intelligent Edge”.

Times Are Changing
You’ve almost definitely used at least one of these services yourself: Uber, Netflix, Airbnb, and of course, Amazon. But, what do they have in common? They all reflect that the way we are consuming things is changing. There has been a significant rise in e-commerce in the last few years, as part of our growing on-demand economy. The success of each of these companies reflects this shift in the way customers are spending their money, and so businesses are learning how to shift, too.

Supply Chain, On-Demand
Companies are adopting strategies like anticipatory shipping, monitoring success of ads, implementing same-day shipping, even tracking the “hover time” of online viewers’ cursors. It’s all part of this on-demand perspective, where supplies need to be ready to go in an instant, at the click of a mouse. In the video, Ehlers looks at on-demand trends including, IoT (internet of things) and data (aka “the emerging tech”) through business models and case studies. He discusses how brands are working to achieve “frictionless flow,” that ensures processes are smooth, timely, and accurate by bringing supplies closer to the point of demand.
