Take Your Company to the Next Level with Modern Mobile OS - Barcoding, Inc.

Written by Barcoding, Inc. | Feb 4, 2019

Over the last several years, we’ve gradually said goodbye to Windows and hello to new modern mobile operating systems. Greg Henry, Vice President of Client Solutions for Barcoding, Inc., discussed the benefits of keeping up with the technology of the supply chain industry with modern mobile operating systems in our latest eBook. Henry is responsible for designing and delivering solutions that increase customer efficiency and accuracy, perfectly aligning with our mission. Let’s explore how OS preference has shifted over the years and how switching to a modern mobile operating system will take your company to the next level.

Beginning of OS

Since the dawn of its inception, Microsoft’s offerings for operating systems were the only choice for customers. With Windows CE and Windows Mobile (later named Windows Embedded Handheld), customers could utilize the features and capabilities needed for enterprise development. In addition, developer tools and third-party offerings allowed customers to create the solution needed to effectively operate and manage their businesses.

When Apple released their first iPhone in 2007, Android (acquired by Google a few years earlier) didn’t have a phone of their own on the market. The only other available options were targeted towards white-collar professionals, not companies of an enterprise environment; this left Windows as the most viable choice with rugged mobile devices equipped with line-of-business applications.

Apple and Google continued to focus on the consumer phone market, but eventually, Android devices targeted at enterprise developments made their debut with broadened product offerings. Customers enjoyed user-friendly touch interfaces and a growing ecosystem of apps and developers. Yet, the more users began to modify its base operating system, it became more difficult for applications to run across different vendors’ products. It was also less likely that highly modified devices would be able to progress to the next version of that base OS.

Adaptability is Key

One of Android’s perks is being able to update without undermining your pre-existing system. Keep reading to learn how to update your interface layer while keeping the heart of your operation the same!

Android’s Proven Success

With Android devices, you can modernize applications without modifying the host application code! During the process, you can also gain information on employee productivity, support mobile devices and PC workstations, and more.

Being able to enhance existing workflows to improve productivity and lower costs is the pinnacle of modernization and efficiency, making Android devices a popular and successful choice for many companies.

Android’s emulation technology allows us at Barcoding to provide your application with a modern user interface while maintaining and utilizing the underlying legacy application protocols and application code. We’re able to give an application a “face lift” without altering the underlying “skeletal system.” Data can be read on transactions per hour, shift, and employee, as well as employee idle time, mobile device usage, and average transaction time per employee. You can further utilize this data to make changes to overall productivity and efficiency while modernizing.

Modernize and Equip your Company for the Future!
Transitioning to Android won’t happen overnight, but it’s worth it in the long run for both your employees and your clients. If you’re still considering whether or not to make improvements to your company’s mobile operating systems, review Henry’s checklist to see if any of these statements apply to you.
