Android Cloud Migration Panel Discussion

Written by Jody Costa | Apr 26, 2019

For the past eight years, we have hosted an annual conference called the Executive Forum to bring industry leaders together for a summit of ideas and innovation. Our goal is to create a fun and exciting environment to hear from field experts, discover cutting-edge technology, and network with other #SupplyChainGeeks.

On October 2, 2018 in sunny Ellicott City, MD, guests from around the country gathered for the event kick-off. Following the morning’s opening remarks and introductions, attendees had the opportunity to select between one of two tracks for more Supply Chain fun!

Best of the Best

Those who chose Track II: Android Cloud Migration were treated to engaging dialogues from three distinguished speakers. First up was Chris Rossi, a Principal at SC&H Group in the technology advisory practice. The second panelist was Bruce Stubbs, who is the Director in Supply Chain Marketing at Honeywell. Finally, we had our very own Martin Jack, the Chief Technology Officer here at Barcoding, Inc. Through this discussion, attendees dove deep into the benefits and challenges of Android and Cloud migration on the technical, professional side, as well as the user side.

Head in the Clouds

So, how does Cloud Migration affect our work? Most technology today is based on what Rossi calls the “Client-Server era,” but the trend is beginning to shift to a new structure: the cloud. This allows us to share data and collaborate “in a way we’ve never seen before,” according to Jack. Developing tech has opened up better access to Big Data, enabling a smarter, more efficient utilization of information.

Benefits of Android and Cloud Migration

A main question the panelists focused on was customer trends in the adoption of mobile computing. Stubbs pointed out that the flexibility provided by mobile devices is one of the most important factors. Productivity can exponentially increase with user-friendly systems, and our speakers emphasized how finding solutions that can work for everyone can help with Supply Chains. Using the 3D Mindset, which you can read more about in our recap post, can “look at new technology and figure out if there is a better way”.
