NYC Introduces QR Codes in a Big Way
Last week was “Internet Week 2010” in New York City, and in order to celebrate, Times Square was adorned with QR codes. The campaign called, “The City at Your Fingerprints” featured 11 agencies participating in an interactive billboard initiative. Those walking by could use their smartphones to scan the QR codes in order to retrieve information about the companies being featured, a free ringtone, or even a chance to win tickets to the Tony Awards.
The use of large-scale QR codes is becoming more and more prevalent, as seen with the Dicks Sporting Goods Campaign. Hopefully Internet Week 2010 was able to introduce more Americans to QR codes so that we can catch up to Japan and the numerous ways QR codes are used there.
