NFC Specification Could Increase Technology’s Popularity

The NFC Forum recently published a new specification that defines a standard interface between a device’s CPU and its NFC chip.

This NFC Controller Interface (NCI) specification will make it much easier for device manufacturers to integrate chipsets from different chip manufacturers, defining a common level of functionality and interoperability among the components within an NFC device.

Ultimately, the NCI specification will bring NFC-enabled devices to market faster. If the NCI specification makes it easier for device manufacturers to create NFC-enabled devices, the technology’s popularity could easily skyrocket. Currently, there are not a lot of NFC-enabled devices on the market, but the NCI specification could change that, meaning a higher NFC adoption rate and more apps making use of the technology.
