Written by Martin Jack | Dec 28, 2022

If you’re a manufacturer, retail supplier, or just about any kind of supply chain partner, you know how important it is to be able to uniquely identify, accurately capture, and automatically share key information.

And you probably know that GS1 is the world’s largest product data network and a global organization whose standards create a common foundation for businesses to identify, capture, and share the most important information about products, services, locations, documents, assets, relationships, and more.

That’s why we’re pleased to announce that Barcoding, Inc., has been designated a GS1 US Executive Solution Partner.

In the video below, Marketing VP Jody Costa and IoT Systems Engineer Adam Eby discuss Adam’s recent GS1 Standards Professional designation, and what this certification means for our experts on the Barcoding, Inc., team—and for our customers.

GS1: World’s Most Widely Used ID Information Standards

GS1 US is the information standards organization that brings industry communities together to improve supply chain business processes through cooperative adoption and implementation of their GS1 Standards. The GS1 system of standards is the most widely used architecture of information standards in the world. It uniquely identifies products, services, assets, and locations worldwide to support supply chain visibility and efficiency.

Incorporating and adhering to GS1 Standards is a critical step for suppliers to comply with big box retailers’ (such as Walmart) demands as they expand their use of data capture technologies in warehouses, distribution centers, retail stores, and fulfillment.

GS1 Standards apply to identification systems that include UPC codes used in barcode labels for every item moving through big box stores and other retailers, EPC Tag Data Standards (TDS) used in RAIN RFID tag and label systems, and much more. At the core of these systems is GS1’s Global Trade Item Number (GTIN), which can be used to uniquely identify a company’s products at any packaging level, from individual item-level to pallet.

The standards create a common language trading partners use to identify, capture, and share information about items as they move through any port, logistics and transport provider, warehouse, DC, and retail location that participates in using GS1 standards.

In other words, if you’re in commerce, GS1 Standards matter to you.
