A New Way to Game
The advent of video game consoles such as the wii have changed the way we play video games. However, sometimes the amount of lag time between a players’ movements and the characters’ movements distracts from the game.
Recently, researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and Disney Research sought out to fix this. Their solution was Lumitrack, a system with less lag time and a higher accuracy rate than current systems on the market. Lumitrack works by using projectors that emit barcode-like light patterns and optical sensors that detect those patterns.
Lumitrack boasts sub-millimeter accuracy and response times around 2.5 milliseconds. While it is currently using visibile light, it could be adapted to use infrared light.
