Welcome to another post in our Video of the Week series, where we are recapping sessions from our #SupplyChainGeekDay Summit event.

Today’s Video
Today’s video features the Material Handling Education Foundation (MHEFI) & AIM/AIDC100. The Material Handling Education Foundation is an influential organization that provides financial assistance for educational programs in the material handling industry. Since 1976, they have awarded $2.5 million to university students to help them along the path to becoming future leaders.

In this Lunch Chat from #SupplyChainGeekDay, Jennifer Jericho, Director of Brand, Marketing & Design at Barcoding, Inc., was joined by Kevin Berisso, President of BAIT Consulting & Associate Professor & Director of the AutoID Lab, University of Memphis to discuss his experiences in the industry and more.

Teaching Tomorrow’s Leaders
Berisso teaches classes in subjects like automation, robotics and AIDC with the College Industry Council on Material Handling Education. In the video, he explains how he integrates barcoding and RFID components so that students can gain an understanding of how automation impacts supply chains and data collection.

Automation Is Key
“Even though people tend to take it for granted, at the end of the day, it is the automatic identification that allows the supply chain to really function,” said Berisso.

Automation is the key to attaining the level of efficiency necessary for a competitive edge in today’s market. Technologies and devices like barcode scanners and RFID readers support the supply chain and allow for more efficient, accurate and connected organizations. From warehouses, to retail locations, to the mobile workforce, mobile devices and AIDC can enhance and improve operations at each step along the supply chain.

“Those technologies are all too often overlooked, so one of my goals and the goals of AIM/AIDC100 is to make sure that we continue to keep the core, basic technologies in everyone’s mind so that they are being leveraged to allow companies to be more successful,” said Berisso.
