Knowing the location of high-priced assets can be mission critical to organizations looking to keep overhead costs down and stop the purchase of extra assets because they become lost or misplaced. By installing a simple Wi-Fi chip on your assets, you can locate each asset through software provided by Barcoding Inc. that uses triangulation.

Uses Existing Wi-Fi Infrastructure

The premier feature of this solution is that your existing Wi-Fi infrastructure is the backbone for this system, no extra hardware needs to be purchased, the investment in your current infrastructure is protected. For instance, if you are currently utilizing Cisco Aeronet access points, a simple firmware upgrade along with Barcoding’s software application is all you will need to get your system up and running. Then, applying a Wi-Fi chip on each item is all that needs to be done. After that the assets can be automatically located through triangulation.

The chip's Triangulation function uses a mathematical calculation to measure the time it takes for radio signals to travel between several access points and the chip. By measuring time, and dividing by the speed of light, it is possible to determine the precise distance from the terminal to the wireless network’s access points.

By creating a map of their locations and the distances measured, each scan’s location can be plotted with a high degree of confidence.

The Wi-Fi asset location system is different from RFID, because it does not require any special RFID equipment, and it works via common, inexpensive Wi-Fi access points. RFID only operates over a very limited distance, whereas Wi-Fi asset location operates in an entire facility, so long as there is a Wi-Fi network.

The system will streamline warehouse, manufacturing, and hospital operations while increasing supply chain accuracy. People who need to track large-scale assets can use our system, which does not require power on board the asset. You can constantly know what is located where. This is a major concern in large facilities such as hospitals that have mobile equipment such as X-Ray machines.
