Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Active & Passive tags?

Passive tags rely on a reader or integrator to “wake it up” and to supply the power necessary to respond and transmit data.

Active tags have their own battery power source and are able to transmit data further distances because they have their own power source. Active tags can transmit data constantly, or periodically like a lighthouse beacon shining a light.

An Active RFID tag is similar to your EZPass tag in your car; it consists of an integrated circuit (IC) which transmits data, using an internal battery source, through an attached antenna.
