World’s First QR Code Coin
While QR codes have been appearing on more and more different types of mediums, they hadn’t appeared on any currency until just recently. The Royal Dutch Mint produced a limited edition of QR Coded coins to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Mint in Utrecht. The silver 5€ and gold 10€ will be released on June 22. The Mint has not yet released what will appear once the QR codes are scanned, they insist that viewers will be surprised at what they see.
Although this is the first instance of QR codes appearing on coins, I’m sure it won’t be the last. I’m also wondering if there will be any movement to place QR codes on paper currency. Imagine on the dollar, for example, if there was a QR that linked to more information on each of the presidents, or any other fun facts.
