USA Today to use Microsoft Tag in Every Issue

USA Today featured a Microsoft Tag on its cover, announcing that there will be at least one Tag in each print section daily to provide additional content such as photo galleries, videos and other online content.

President and Publisher of USA Today, Dave Hunke, stated that integrating Microsoft Tags is, “…part of our goal to bring together our digital and print platforms to provide our readers easier access to special features from the newspaper.” Hunke went on to say that USA Today was proud to be one of the first U.S. newspapers to offer Microsoft Tags to readers daily.

While, I think using 2D barcodes daily to link to additional online content is a great idea, I’m struggling with why USA Today decided to go with Microsoft Tag over standard QR codes, which are open source.

Will you scan USA Today’s Microsoft Tag to receive additional content? Also, do you like Microsoft Tag, or do you prefer QR Codes? Let us know by commenting here, or on our Facebook or Twitter pages.
