Refill Your Prescription by Scanning a Barcode

Walgreens’ recent launch of mobile RX text alerts has had great success, topping over one million subscribers. The “Refill” by Scan” feature on Walgreens’ mobile application accounts for more than half of prescription refills ordered through the app. Not surprising when all customers have to do is scan the barcode on their prescription containers with their smartphones. Once the barcode is scanned, customers have the option to change their store pickup location, in addition to the time and day.
Prescription text alerts notify subscribers via text message when their prescriptions are ready.

In addition, app users can access prescription history, locate the nearest Walgreens, browse products, check in-store availability, order photo prints and shop from their phones.

I’m pleased to see that the Refill by Scan feature is so widely adopted, meaning the general public is starting to adopt barcodes into their daily life. If you’ve used the Walgreens app, let us know how your experience went by commenting here, or our Facebook or Twitter pages.
